Small Backyard Started Looking Bigger After Horizontal Fencing and Jasmine Went In
Builder-grade fencing, bare soil, and an unfinished backyard formed the starting point for this compact outdoor space. Large-format porcelain paving established a clean foundation, but the biggest change came from horizontal slat fencing, climbing jasmine, and carefully planned planting beds that gradually softened every hard surface.

Existing fence panels already introduced horizontal timber slats, replacing traditional vertical boards with long uninterrupted lines. Concrete posts remained in place, providing structure while allowing the new fencing to become the dominant feature.
Horizontal boards naturally draw the eye across the garden rather than upward. That simple change makes compact outdoor spaces appear wider before any paving or planting is added.
Fence Became the Foundation of the Design
Fresh horizontal slat panels enclosed the garden while the surrounding space remained under construction. Their clean geometry established the visual direction for everything that followed.
