This Suite by La Leta Architettura Redefines Contemporary Living in Palermo’s Historic Center

Image
Nestled between the Vucciria market and the Cala harbor, Eligius by La Leta Architettura transforms a compact historic property into two elegant contemporary suites. Each 28-square-meter unit is carefully organized along a linear layout, where materials and light subtly define the transition between spaces. A change in flooring—from smooth resin to handcrafted majolica tiles made in Santo Stefano di Camastra—marks the passage from the sleeping area to the bathroom, while a custom dark-wood unit integrates storage, a hidden kitchenette, and suspended rails for lighting and clothing. The interiors balance local craftsmanship with modern minimalism. Vaulted ceilings with plaster details recall Palermo’s architectural heritage, while glass partitions and clean lines introduce a sense of openness and depth. Natural light flows through soft neutral tones, contrasted by dark wood and matte black fixtures, creating a calm and elegant atmosphere. The post This Suite by La Leta Ar...

Casa LyP by LS Arquitecturas: A Modern Composition of Light and Simplicity

Image
Located in the open landscape of Novelda, Spain, Casa LyP by LS Arquitecturas is a refined exercise in geometry and light. The house features a minimalist exterior made of pale concrete volumes, where horizontal planes and deep overhangs create a strong architectural rhythm. Large floor-to-ceiling windows anchor the façade, framing views of the surrounding terrain and allowing natural light to flood the interior, softening the raw materiality of the structure. Inside, the design continues with the same clarity and restraint. The double-height living space is defined by its glass balustrade staircase with floating wooden treads, enhancing the visual continuity between levels. Contemporary furnishings in neutral tones and circular pendant lights balance the scale of the room, reinforcing a sense of calm openness. Casa LyP embodies modern Mediterranean living through simplicity, proportion, and the thoughtful interplay of concrete, glass, and light. The post Casa LyP by LS...

GR Apartment in Rome by 123ArchitectureOffice Blends Heritage Structure with Bold Modern Design

Image
Located in the Prati district of Rome, the GR Apartment by 123ArchitectureOffice reinterprets a classic early 20th-century dwelling. The original brick-vaulted ceiling with exposed metal beams was restored as a defining feature. A sculptural spiral staircase in bright lemon-yellow resin becomes the focal point of the space—both functional and artistic—anchoring the home’s modern character within its historic shell. The living and dining areas feature warm oak parquet laid in an Italian herringbone pattern, complemented by soft neutral finishes and a curated selection of contemporary furniture. The CLAY table by Desalto serves as the centerpiece of the dining space, paired with Violin chairs by Gubi and illuminated by the Aplomb Large pendant by Foscarini. Along the walls, minimalist black AP2B1C wall lamps by Serge Mouille provide directional lighting that highlights the artwork and textured surfaces, while the Alcor sideboard by Maxalto adds warmth and understated refinement. ...

Vipp Lofoten – a minimalist hideaway in Norway’s far north

Image
Danish brand Vipp has just unveiled the latest addition to its collection of bookable guest accommodation around the world and it’s one of my favourites so far. Not only is it stunning from a design point of view, it’s also located in the Lofoten Islands – a rugged archipelago of wild mountains, sheltered inlets and tiny fishing villages, set largely above the Arctic Circle in northern Norway . I’ve long felt the pull of the far north (it turns out I have DNA from Iceland and Swedish Lapland), and Norway is the only Nordic country whose Arctic region I have yet to visit. I had to cancel a planned trip there earlier this year after coming down with flu, and when I get the chance to rebook I’ll be making a beeline straight to Vipp Lofoten. The cabin-like hideaway sits on a remote seashore on the island of Stormolla, within True North Lofoten Village – a small cluster of modern Scandinavian lodges developed by Norwegian visual artist and composer Magne Furuholmen. His aim was t...
