Oblique House: Minimalist Contrast Living in the Netherlands

Designed by Dutch interior designer Niels Maier in collaboration with Ruimtemakers Architecten, Oblique House is a modern residence made up of three stacked volumes, each defined by a distinct material. Set within a wooded property in the south of the Netherlands, the home combines wood, gray brick, and white Corian, creating both contrast and balance.

The minimal approach continues with a monochrome palette, bespoke furniture, and iconic design pieces such as Pierre Jeanneret’s lounge chair, Philipp Mainzer’s ST04 Backenzahn Stool, and the Eames House Bird.

The open-plan living, dining, and kitchen spaces highlight clean lines, black surfaces, and warm wood accents. Bathrooms follow the same restrained aesthetic, pairing black fixtures with white volumes to create a sophisticated, calm atmosphere throughout the home.
